Description
John Melville painter born in London 1902 - 1986. In the early 1930s was connected with the Surrealists in London; during the war years he published a series of pieces in the Surrealist London Bulletin. In the 1950s he taught at the Birmingham University in the extra-mural department. Melville's work had a surge in popularity in the fiftieth anniversary of the International Surrealist Exhibition. He exhibited widely in 1930s at St George's Gallery, Wertheim Gallery, RBSA and elsewhere and was featured in International shows of Surrealist and Dada art. Blond Fine Art had a retrospective show in 1986
