Chris King

Inspired by nature and the sea as a child, Chris King is a self-taught artist.Having retired after running his own business for many years his is now able to indulge his lifelong interest in art. He employs both traditional and impressionist techniques in his paintings. The experience of a safari holiday in Zimbabwe in 1996 proved a powerful influence. As aresult, he has carried out a number of studies relating to the animals he encountered duringthat trip.Since moving to the Cotswolds in 2009, he has become an active member of Julia Christie’s,‘Studio Artists’ and more recently has participated in the group exhibition held at The CanalTrust in Stroud. In his painting ‘Low Tide Sunrise - Dorset ’ he has taken pleasure in experimenting with lightand colour to capture a deserted beach after the tide has gone out, suggesting a notion oftranquility and calm.He believes the use of a sketchbook combined with judicious use of the camera is paramountin capturing the true spirit of a composition. Contact with other artists has already had asignificant influence on his approach to painting and he is looking forward to expanding hishorizons into mixed media subjects during the coming years.
