Jan Sorenson

Jan Sorensen born Denmark 1949, sculptor in wood and bronze. When carving in wood Jan works with his imagination, looking for the figure inside the piece of wood, at which point he carves freeflow. Thus the final sculpture is a combination of material and spirit; he looks at the source piece to find the shape inside.

When working in bronze he does his own casting using the lost wax casting method which is the oldest method in bronze. Jan makes editions of 8 or 9, when a series is sold he destroys the original mould.
