Polo
Polo was born 10th of February 1948 in France, of Italian mother, and father from the Savoy. Gifted from a very young age, life led him towards artistic creation. At the age of 20 his work was exclusively on canvas, but even at this time there was a deep desire (quasi obsessional) “One day I’m going to become a sculptor, and have my own studio”.
After travelling the world (U.S.A., West-Indies, Greece, South America), in 1993 Polo returned to the French Riviera and cut his teeth on siporex, a molded cement; and that was the birth of his first sculpture, and the beginning of his new life. For Polo everything is natural and spontaneous. Whatever the sacrifices Polo says “Finally I am expressing my natural gift that I was not using before”. The mastering and maturity of the artist speaks for the worth of the man. Hard at work, through shapes, curves and roundedness, he gives sensuality to the material in a playful way. By the purity of their form and colour, works are generous without artifice or pretension; but timeless. Polo’s sculpture draws out great emotion and a feeling that links us to the artist in his quest of spirituality. It is no longer the result of the action of the man that we contemplate or his technique, but something else, inexplicable.
“It is the supremacy of the art.”
